Google Index is Hacked

This is the latest News to digest in the Search and Internet Security Industry. The Inquirer highlights the events of the hack happened. I am sure that this must be a regular hacking on the index but this is the first time Google Watchdog identified it.

It appears that some search results are returning Chinese sites, which are easily identified by their .cn suffix. These malicious .cn sites, which appear before the valid returns, give users more they bargain for:

"When a punter clicks on one of the .cn sites, they are sent to an entirely different page which attempts to install one or more pieces of malware on the user’s computer.

The Google Watchdog whines suggestively that the the faked sites are redirecting the Googlebot to a location where content can be indexed, while at the same time recognizing normal users and redirecting them to a site that includes the malware."

This information is going to alert us more while clicking on the links on SERPs. Google users should be little careful while clicking on the results by avoiding click on the .cn TLDs (Suffix Top Level Domain).

Search Engine Marketing Event

Chennai Trade Center had organized a Job fare wherein, I met my old SEM (Search Engine Marketing) friend Bhaskar (can read his blog here) and his boss Vikram (Director India Office) etc., for Efficient Frontier Silicon Valley Based Search Marketing Company. We had a talk about the Searchcamp, a two day interactive seminar aimed to bring together the best minds from the Search Engine Marketing field to talk about search engine advertising, including optimization and marketing issues. Searchcamp event seems to be the first of its kind in India and is said to feature workshops, debates and keynotes on the present state and evolution of Search Engine Marketing.
